These Analogue 2 way radios are a rugged and very capable design and offer far more than the typical 'disposable radios' that aren't that much cheaper.First thing to say is that if buying these in the UK none of the factory installed test channels you see are actually available for public/free use in the UK. So for licensed use you will probably be heading to the programming software pages on Retevis global /US website. The programming software is for NR630S. (the 'S' is important . . )The twin pack I bought came with one suitable USB - multi pin programming cable. The programming software you download will not hold any surprises if you are used to setting up Licenced business or 'Ham' 2 way radios. The Cable, Driver and Software worked smoothly on a current windows 11 desktop system and I also tested it on an ancient Windows 7 laptop so it should cover most PC's.The two radios I received both delivered close to their specified 10W on High Power right across the specified 400 - 480 MHz range. They measured around 10.9 and 11W respectively at the low frequency end into a good load.Mid power was always between 5 and 6 Watts and Low dropped it to around 1.5W (and probably increases battery life in transmit considerably if that's sufficient.) The power level of a channel can be adjusted 'on the road' in the menu as can Squelch, noise reduction etc.The supplied antenna design is a fairly short, very rigid, stubby one which makes a great stable and waterproof joint with the radio when screwed down. It performs well on transmit and receive (Actually very very well) right across the radio's range and the matching (Never that critical on handheld radios) is absolutely fine and far wider/better than the big 2-way radio brands generally manage. It's below 2:1 VSWR most of the time when tested 'hand held' which is excellent. The display (press any key if the backlight has timed out) shows the top-knob selected Channel, Transmit and Receive frequency and any CTS/DCS tones all of which must be programmed with the software. Also Power output level Noise reduction, group calling status etc which can be initially set with the software but also adjusted on the radio. And there's a useful battery meter which on mine dropped from full (3 bars) to 2 bars around 7.6V which is around 70% battery left and so a well chosen first- warning point. 1 bar is seen below about 15%Side buttons provide a channel monitor function (listen without Squelch or tones) and a scan function for the programmed channels.A keypad lock avoids accidental presses of the main keyboard while a menu item called channel lock will stop the selected channel getting nudged accidentally. With both Locked down the On/Volume, PTT , SOS, Group call (if active) and the Unlock key are all that's left available for use.A Short press on any key will still bring the backlight on to check the battery meter etc though. This all works well in a scenario where you don't want radios being knocked or fiddled with resulting in someone having loss of communication. The group call function provides a single button that presses to talk on a pre-set channel (whatever the radio was doing previously) It will then listen for replied on that channel and allow a conversation before timing out to the previous channel. The radios monitor the Group Channel as well as the displayed channel when the radio is in standby. Incoming Calls on 'Group' have a red 'banner' in the displayThis process and the overall Battery Saver option (frequent but not continuous listens during the standby time) which can reportedly provide as much as 120Hours standby) can sometimes result in a bit of a delay in reception of the first word when an incoming call is first picked up. Turning off Saver (in the Programming software) and Group Call reduced those delays significantly although standby life will be reduced. The programming software also allows the built-in microphone to made a bit more sensitive which worked better in my testsThe multi pin programming lead connects to a matching 'socket area' on the right side of the case (having removed a cover) and this is also the point of contact for a suitable Speaker Microphone or Headset if requiredA desk charger stand is provided and so is a USB-C cable for each unit that can plug into the back of the high capacity battery (Which has its own charging status LED nearby. A suitable USB2 (1Amp) or better 5V power source is required in both cases.A very capable package with professional credentials for demanding usage in tough environments.

Products arrived on time , and the products felt of good quality. Everyting that was needed was supplied and worked. A great 10W radio. What for me added value was that I am new to a radio set up and I had a number of questions which I emailed Retevis direct. They always replied within 24 hours and when longer due to the weekend they aplogised.Really good after sales supportSkiing in Tignes and this was the first chance to use this product and all I can say is awesome. My son was on the mountain , I was in the hotel ski room which was on floor -2 basically a concrete cell and the reception both ways was clear as can be . Really impressed. Another example I was at the top of the mountain and my son was 45 min away ( so quite some distance and in another valley and again awesome performance.
