I had a Pioneer GM-8604 a couple years back and ended up letting it go with a car I sold. I basically bought the newer year model of it with the 8704 and it's just as good. PLENTY of power for my Pioneer D-Series 6x9 components and my A-series 6.5" coax speakers in my F150. I actually have it at about 70% gain right now because I don't really need the full 100%. I also don't need the background noise that kicks is and I think that's the only detractor I have with this amp. It's price is near-impossible to beat but the SNR shows ~75 DB which means I think it's generating some background static noise one you get it above half gain (marked with an H I believe on the amp). At first it's nearly unnoticeable but if you push halfways between Normalized gain and Half Gain it starts to get a little bit obvious. When music is playing it can't be heard but quieter tracks you'll hear it and that's kind of a bummer. Fortunately I don't really need the last 20%+ power so I keep the noise to a minimum but I think the SNR is kind of at-fault for having that background noise at higher gain settings. I've also heard that it could be due to lesser components used. Granted, Pioneer is typically reliable across the board and offers great value without cheaping out hard on components, but there's a reason Rockford and others have amps that are a little more expensive and don't offer quite as much output: they're using higher grade internal components which I think helps mitigate things like background noise at high gain. BUT, if you're just trying to power some 50-80W speakers I think the GM-8704 is unbeatable for its value and output capabilities. The background noise is non-existent until you start to get your gain structure set closer to Normal (12-o-clock, basically) where you're trying to push the full 100W RMS-per-channel @ 4 ohms that you may be going for. This is a good amp. There are better but they're hard to recommend if you're not trying to put a high-quality stereo system that's meant to be a showroom-caliber setup. This amp does great and outside of the static/hiss you'll get if you're really cranking the gain, it's perfect.
