This is a bit of a gimmicky item that has noticeable limitations.First of all, the power cable is not very long which makes it pretty inconvenient in so far as only being usable in close proximity to a power source. It also seems quite surprising that it has no safety function built in besides "will turn off after 8 hours". I would have thought something like this would include an internal scale that cuts off heat when it detects that there is nothing placed on the heated area for a minute or two. As it is, it would be very easy to accidentally make contact with the hot surface, and there is simply no way I would use this with children or pets around. It wouldn't cause the worst burn in the world, but would still be painful.I've used it with a standard coffee mug so not quite the flat bottomed vessel recommended, and no doubt this has an impact on the effectiveness of the heat pad. With that said however, while it doesn't keep a drink hot it definitely does significantly extend the amount of time it takes to go completely cold, and it both reaches temperature and fully cools at an impressive speed.The interface is sleek and minimalist, with a single touch-sensitive button to toggle between the 2 heat modes and the off mode.I land in a strange middle ground with this - I know it's a gimmicky waste of money, its not something that I'd recommend to others based on general performance, yet I personally do still find it quite useful as I have a bad habit of forgetting my tea/coffee, and it has helped me to form a good habit of actually using coasters! It may be useful to some, and to anyone interested my advice would be to grab one, but manage your expectations carefully.
