Given the recent worldwide issues such as pandemic and severe flooding repeatedly I wanted to dive into amateur radio (HAM). This Baofeng consistently has great reviews everywhere, so I give it a try. And for someone like me, who first wants/needs to listen, to learn about the amateur frequencies, to discover what there is, it's perfect. Once I get the license I'm sure I will also enjoy broadcasting with it. I was worried that I might accidentally broadcast, without a license, but there's no way to misunderstand what you're doing, so if you just want something to catch amateur radio frequencies (or regular FM) and worry about accidental broadcasting, with this one it's easy to use it just as a receiver. The user manual is understandable, and the size of the radio is pretty small, much nicer that what I was expecting. I live in a rural area and the signal strength for FM is great near a window, a little better than on a normal FM radio. As for the other frequencies, I can catch many broadcasts, so I believe the reception is equally good. Only the product craftsmanship leaves a little to be desired (the buttons for example feel a little cheap, as well as the docking stand), but given the great price, and functionality, I don't want to complain... I think if you're starting your journey into HAM broadcasting, this is the handheld radio to get. Recommended.

C'est un véritable outil, son utilisation est complexe et nécessite quelques connaissances, ne serait-ce que pour le régler.Il est livré avec une batterie, un chargeur, une antenne, une pince, une dragonne, une oreillette/micro avec une prise au format Kenwood (K1), et une notice en anglais uniquement. La batterie peut également être rechargée avec un câble USB C.À l'usage, son statut de champion se vérifie. Il est suffisamment puissant pour un usage en randonnée ou n'importe quel autre site ouvert jusqu'à plus de deux kilomètres. Il est flexible, et il est sécurisé. On pourra le programmer en utilisant une interface série dédiée et là, c'est tout un monde qui s'ouvre à vous. Cerise sur le gâteau, on pourra recevoir ses stations préférées sur la bande FM.Au final, Je suis très satisfait de cet appareil. Il est robuste, puissant mais compact, fonctionnel, bourré de fonctions, et il est programmable. Vendu 50€, le rapport qualité/prix me semble très correct pour un véritable outil de communication.

I’ve become a real fan of BAOFENG radio products for the Ham Radio market. This particular model, the ‘5RM’ offers a slightly increased size over the legendary UV-5R that was introduced a few years ago.Along with the increase in size, a larger and more clearly read color LCD screen was added, along with several new menu features and 999 memory channels. While the screen is highly legible, it is difficult to see in the bright sunshine and you’ll have to find some shade. However, there is audible indication of what channel you select in memory mode.This particular version of the 5RM states that it has an 8-Watt transmitter, a slightly later version is advertised as having a 10-Watt transmitter. Frankly, that 2-watt difference wouldn’t make that much of a difference in my experience. Either way, these are relatively short distance communications. If you hold an Amateur Radio license, I’m sure you are knowledgeable of VHF/UHF operational conditions with regard to frequency and terrain challenges.The included accessories are nice, providing a plug-in, drop-in type charger with a 2500 Li-Ion battery, a flexible 8-inch, SMA-mount antenna, corded ear phone with integrated PTT microphone capability, belt clip and short lanyard. Additional batteries and accessories are available at very low cost. It should be noted that the battery can also be charged with a USB-C charger. That’s a nice feature, but you’ll have to supply your own charger and cord. I have found that some suppliers provide a charge cord when purchasing an extra battery, just check the particular supplier for details.The 5RM provides some attractive features, like tri-band operation, and wide-band reception covering the FM broadcast band, the Amateur Radio VHF/UHF bands, NOAA, and even the VHF Aviation band. In addition, there is a small light and even an audible alarm. Make sure you review all the features illustrated in the advertisement.The instructions have been updated and are easier to follow and the format is larger and much easier to read. The one thing I noted as missing, was any mention of CHIRP software to aid programming the memory channels; and, no program cable is supplied.Personally I find the BAFENG 5RM an attractive handy-talkie (HT). It’s not as small and compact as the earlier UV5R, but I like the screen better, and it still fits the hand well, and the overall build and design quality is quite nice. Excellent audio, durable, and very low cost when compared to similar products a decade or so ago. The expanded memory channels and increased transmit power make this a very good buy in my opinion.

Dieses Baofeng 5RM habe ich zum Testen bestellt.Es ist ein reines "Amateurfunk-Gerät", darauf wird erfreulicherweise im Angebotstext unübersehbar hingewiesen.Sehr merkwürdig dann wieder in vorauseilendem Gehorsam senderseitig auf die entsprechenden Frequenzbereiche gesperrt, aber mit "Scrambler" - Funktion (rechtliche Grauzone) und explizit freigeschaltetem Flugfunk-Empfangsbereich in AM (das Abhören ist illegal!) ... hm... ?!Das Angebot auf Amazon ist etwas "widersprüchlich": auf allen Bildern ist ein Baofeng BF-5RM abgebildet, anscheinend auf Band A auf 222,5MHz eingestellt.Geliefert wird aber ein Baofeng 5RM, bei diesem Gerät ist keine"200MHz" - Frequenz einstellbar.Das Gerät ist für ein "5er Baofeng" recht groß und schwer - das ist aber OK. Es liegt gut in der Hand und die Tasten lassen sich gut bedienen. Der Akku ist bei diesem Modell "richtig groß". Die Bedienung und insbesondere die "Programmierung" ist Baofeng - Typisch sehr umständlich. Erfreulicherweise hat dieses Modell ein paar zusätzliche Funktionstasten, so daß man direkt VFO/Kanal , A/B und das Band umschalten kann. Wobei "Band" tatsächlich einfach nur VHF/UHF umschaltet... Es gibt 999 Speicherplätze - das ist eher ein Marketing-Gag. Brauchbar ist das eher nicht. Da wäre weniger mehr gewesen, wenn dies dann auf mehrere "Bänke" unterteilt wäre.Bei diesem Gerät ist alles "schön bunt" - LCD - Display und beleuchtete Tasten ... und wenn dunkel, dann dunkel: dann sieht man auf dem Display tatsächlich null und nix. Bei den alten TFT war einfach nur die Beleuchtung aus - man konnte trotzdem noch etwas auf dem Display erkennen...Outdoor sieht man auch bei aktivem Display nicht viel.Zumindest hat man nun den Welt - langsamsten Scan getarnt: man darf nicht mehr zuschauen, wie sich die Zahlen auf dem Display gemütlich verändern - jetzt wird einfach nur noch "search... search..." angezeigt. UKW Rundfunkempfang ist bei diesem Modell wieder mit implementiert - und auch wieder ohne Senderspeicher ... ? Dafür ist die auch wieder vorhandene Taschenlampenfunktion erheblich heller als die der Vorgänger - wenn da nicht die durch die verpackungsweise total krumme Antenne im Weg ist.Der Klang und die Modulation ist OK, die Sendeleistung lässt sich in 3 Stufen schalten und ansonsten lässt sich per CHIRP alles programmieren, was bei solchen Baofengs so üblich ist ...Ein 5er Baofeng mit Facelift - nix neues, nix besonderes , aber mit aktuell rund €50 viel zu teuer. Deshalb gibt es von mir auch nur 3 Sterne dafür.
